We all look forward to the most exciting game of the soccer world this weekend. Derby time in Manchester, with United and City facing off at Old Trafford. This game is an explosive matter, not only in Manchester. While for United and City supporters the bragging rights are at stake, for the teams in the top 5 this can have a major influence on the championship. Just imagine United is going to lose this game. They just lost the first game of the season last week, and now again? They can say what they want, there is some major psychological pressure at work. Well, not that City shows up completely free of pressure. They need to demonstrate that they are worth all the money spend on them, finally. A loss, and the champions league qualification is in danger and that is the last thing they can afford. Considering all of that, let’s hope there is an early goal. Otherwise we might only see a boring 0-0 kick.
Arsenal and Chelsea should win their games. Wolves and Fulham should not stand in their way while chasing United and City. Spurs job in Sunderland is a little more difficult. Somehow, I am under the impression that Spurs can run out of gas at any time. Especially since Liverpool got rid of their crisis and with a win against Wigan can further bolster their new won confidence. They are a new contender for 5th place, no doubt.
The most interesting game on the bottom of the table takes place between West Brom and West Ham. If the Londoners can manage a win, they will pass West Brom and possibly catapult themselves out of the relegation zone, at least for a few days. Birmingham against Stoke is another interesting game. Birmingham is in need of a win in this one. Otherwise the pressure for their make-up games is going to increase and that’s not something McLeish is shooting for.
