IMF Boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn in trouble

The case of IMF Chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn (DSK) has created some major waves in the U.S. as well as across the Atlantic. Strauss-Kahn is accused of sexual assault and other serious charges.

What happened? A housekeeping employee claims she went in to DSK’s suite to clean, when DSK came naked out of the bathroom and chased her down the hallway. She ran away, but DSK was able to pull her into a bedroom where he attacked her. She got away, but DSK could then pull her into a bathroom where he forced himself on her. While attempting to remove her underwear, the woman was able to finally get away. She ran to the front desk and informed hotel staff which in turn called police. In the meantime, DSK left the hotel and went to the Airport. On his departure from the hotel DSK forgot his cell phone in the hotel. It was reported by eye-witnesses, that DSK was in huge hurry and seemed stressed when he was leaving with the hotels shuttle service.

Police arrived around 1:30pm at the hotel. At some point, DSK called the hotel and inquiring about his cell phone stating that he is at JFK Airport about to board a plane.

DSK was taken of the plane at 4:40pm by Port Authority Officials and was cooperative.

This is what it is reported so far. DSK denied the charges via his attorney, other than that, there is no statement from DSK.

The case is now open for speculation until more details emerge. Looking at what is reported, this could go anywhere. While DSK made an name for himself as a man with a weakness for women (according to himself), this case is far from clear. There is not much evidence that can be determined as criminal fact at this point.

In the French press, speculations are even going into the direction of conspiracy. There are quite a few people that would have an advantage of this case. DSK’s biggest problem is the perception of his former affair’s relating to the NYC case. While the case is developing, another case against DSK was brought up from 2002 that has never been reported.

DSK was scheduled to meet Germany’s Angela Merkel on Sunday afternoon in Berlin. The Germans are far away from calling DSK guilty and were stating there is nothing to comment on until more facts and evidence becomes available.

For now, this has created unrest in the financial markets and politics. How far this will have an impact on the debt negotiations in Europe is unclear. The IMF stated they are fully operational and there will be no major interruptions.

  1. Well I am hung up on 2 sides of the story. One side says that the maid is money hungry and out to get some big bucks from one of the most powerful men in the world. Well, who use to be the most powerful man in the world. The other side of the story is that Dominique Strauss-Kahn thinks he can do anything given his position and did take advantage of the maid. The thing that tells me that Dominique Strauss-Kahn might have been the guilty one is the fact that he resigned from his position as IMF chief. Perhaps he knows that he is going down and left his seat with IMF.

    • I agree with the thought that he takes advantage of people. It looks like he has “some kind of damage” and believes his power makes him the best shot on Earth.
As far as stepping down, he had to. In his current situation, guilty or not, he is unabale to do his job. If it turns out he is not guilty, he will come back in politics. The French would love to see this happening.
      Thanks for your comment!
