The year 1992 was known as “the year of the woman” because so many female senators were elected to Congress. How many women won seats that year? Only 7. Crazy, right?
Sure, we could get bummed out that there aren’t 51 female senators out of 100 to accurately reflect the population of the United States (can you imagine? There would probably, at the very least, be fewer arguments on the Senate floor about birth control). But we’d be missing the point — we’ve come a very long way in a relatively short time.

‘Skyfall’ has best opening in Bond movie history – MarketWatch.
CHICAGO (MarketWatch) — The latest James Bond movie, “Skyfall,” not only beat rivals at the box office this weekend, but also had the best North American opening for a Bond movie in the franchise’s 23-movie history.
As the 23rd James Bond film “Skyfall” hits theaters, get your 007 fix—including an interview with Roger Moore, Bond No. 3.
The film, starring Daniel Craig, raked in $87.8 million in ticket sales for its U.S. and Canadian debut this weekend, according to a Reuters report.
That tops the $67.5 million debut of 2008’s “Quantum of Solace,” formerly the franchise’s best opening, according to the Associated Press.
”Skyfall” has earned $518.6 million globally since opening in overseas theaters in late October, according to Sony Pictures (NYSE:SNE) , its distributor, Reuters reported.
Domestically, the movie beat Walt Disney Co.’s (NYSE:DIS) “Wreck-It Ralph,” which brought in $33.1 million this weekend, as well as “Flight,” the Denzel Washington drama from Paramount Pictures (NASDAQ:VIA) , which came in third at $15.1 million.
