Social Media For Social Good: Recent Trends Towards Charity – Infographic

social-media-for-social-good_525c44e98fbb2According to a recent survey, 83 percent of Americans want brands to support causes. In the same survey, it was found that 41 percent of people bought a product from a company because they knew the company was associated with a cause.

With online charity giving steadily rising, along with the ever-increasing popularity of social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, and more, it’s not hard to find a number of recent examples of social enterprises that are effectively using social media to aid in their efforts.

This infographic highlights a few of these examples, and offers more supporting research for companies who are considering moving toward the ‘social enterprise’ business model.

Internet Search: Google’s Hummingbird Will Do Better – Infographic

googles-hummingbird-algorithm--whats-it-all-about_525b836632977

In their attempt to make search better, Google came up with a new algorithm for its search engine. Hummingbird represents nothing new in the search industry. 20 years ago, smaller engines, later bought by Microsoft, Google and other tech firms were using conceptual search already, and they delivered better results.

Hummingbird focus is on the meaning of the search term, so if you are looking for a bank in South Beach, Florida, you won’t run into results that show you sandbanks at the beach (you get the idea).

In my opinion, this is an effort Google, and others, should have invested in much earlier.  Have a look.

This is an interesting infographic about hotel groups on Facebook. However, in my opinion, it is not a good idea to use these numbers and statistics as a measure of popularity. The structures of the various Facebook set-ups don’t allow reliable measures, which might very well be intended. As an example, in these times, career related likes have not much value. Looking at the various sites can give hotel marketers good insight on what is good and where improvements can be made. Have a look. Continue reading
