‘Skyfall’ has best opening in Bond movie history – MarketWatch.
CHICAGO (MarketWatch) — The latest James Bond movie, “Skyfall,” not only beat rivals at the box office this weekend, but also had the best North American opening for a Bond movie in the franchise’s 23-movie history.
As the 23rd James Bond film “Skyfall” hits theaters, get your 007 fix—including an interview with Roger Moore, Bond No. 3.
The film, starring Daniel Craig, raked in $87.8 million in ticket sales for its U.S. and Canadian debut this weekend, according to a Reuters report.
That tops the $67.5 million debut of 2008’s “Quantum of Solace,” formerly the franchise’s best opening, according to the Associated Press.
”Skyfall” has earned $518.6 million globally since opening in overseas theaters in late October, according to Sony Pictures (NYSE:SNE) , its distributor, Reuters reported.
Domestically, the movie beat Walt Disney Co.’s (NYSE:DIS) “Wreck-It Ralph,” which brought in $33.1 million this weekend, as well as “Flight,” the Denzel Washington drama from Paramount Pictures (NASDAQ:VIA) , which came in third at $15.1 million.
Forget Ursula Andress, Halle Berry and Denise Richards. It’s all about Lotus, Aston Martin and BMW. In addition to the most beautiful women, James Bond is always guaranteed to have the sweetest, most technologically advanced cars on the planet.
In the newest 007, Skyfall, our favorite British secret agent drives a 1963 Aston Martin DB5. That bad boy can reach a max speed of 143 miles per hour, but will probably cost you upwards of $100,000 to own yourself. Bond’s also driven Aston Martins in the last three films before Skyfall and in several more before that, going as far back as 1964′s iconic Goldfinger.
The infographic below, which comes to us courtesy of the British website carloan4u.co.uk, gives vital details on all Bond’s cars since the original Dr. No in 1962 and then couples that info with how much money each film raked in at the box office (all numbers adjusted for current inflation rates).

James Bond fans are getting an early taste of Skyfall, the upcoming 23rd installment in the spy film franchise, through a series of YouTube videos.
The latest clip highlights the ins and outs of taping an underwater fight scene with actor Daniel Craig.
“Not only has he got to concentrate on the fight he’s got to concentrate on the acting as well,” says stunt coordinator Gary Powell in the video. “It’s tiring because you’re moving a lot more than you think you are — just lifting your arm. There’s more weight on it because you’re underwater and all that.”
